About Middle Valley Lumber llc

Middle Valley Lumber llc. was formed early in 2007 by partners Travis Ruhland and Steve Morris. From the day they met to now, they have both refined their skills and excelled in their service as they continue to do day by day.

Travis grew up with his father periodically going to an old time circular sawmill for lumber in need around the house. His interest in lumber formed during high school when he started apprenticing in local cabinet shops. During high school and these apprenticeships he studied occasionally with the late Simmie Again, who supplied George Nakashima with his logs many many years ago. Travis spent two years in Bucks County Community College, studying their fine woodworking program, while still working full time apprenticing in four major local cabinet shops. While attending Bucks County Community College Travis refined his interest in wood grain, studied reproduction antique period furniture, and honed his skills in woodturning, wood carving, and millwork. Travis has gained tremendous appreciation, knowledge , and attention to detail on all aspects of woodworking through these experiences.  He applies this to every customer he serves. As Simmie, Travis selects his own logs and saws each one himself as a gem cutter works with a diamond.

Steve owns and operates Mammoth Tree Service of Long Valley, New Jersey, which he started almost 20 years ago. Steve has an outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, having started his company from next to nothing beginning with a chainsaw and a pickup truck. He now operates a fully equipped diverse service.  A professional timber cutter knows what they have to do, and that many times producing the best saw log a tree can yield means climbing it. Loggers in the Far East will tell you “A tiger won’t climb a tree”, and that may be why we do not see the rarest grains these exotics have to reveal.  Steve is a true professional for all tree cutting needs. He specializes in climbing, timber cutting, and logging. Steve knows how to properly fell a tree for harvest by box, core, and back cutting, then wedging to his desired landing on the ground. As the tree falls his expected direction he continues to cut away the log from the stump to minimize  any tear out. He also specializes in the hardest climbing jobs requiring cranes to remove the heaviest trees over the tightest areas, power lines, and houses. This process is also essential to making a proper sawlog. Steve is constantly selectively logging local properties, which Travis helps walk for specialized harvest. If you are seeking a one man specialized tree service that will treat you, and your tree’s right Steve’s Mammoth Tree Service is the right one for the job.

It is our mission to produce outstanding quality lumber of hard to find character. By doing our own work we have full quality control, and it is our vision to continue doing so.
Thank You for your interest in our company.
